MARDIPLO AT THE EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA

10 / 08 / 2023

On the 9th of August, MARDIPLO had the pleasure of meeting H.E. Tamara Weingerl-Požar, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Hellenic Republic.

The discussion started on a sober note, with the recent devastating floods in the Republic of Slovenia and the equally catastrophic forest fires in Greece. Dr. Mary Papaschinopoulou expressed her sympathy with the Slovenian people at this difficult time and hoped for a speedy recovery.

Ambassador Weingerl-Požar and Dr. Mary Papaschinopoulou drew on their respective 20+ years of EU experience in Brussels to discuss the maritime dimension of the EU. Key maritime topics included port facilities, connectivity and the growing importance of Slovenia’s only container port, Luka Koper, as a reliable provider of port and logistics services in the northern Adriatic, mainly connecting the markets of Central and South-Eastern Europe with the Mediterranean and the Far East. The discussion also touched on the global importance of Greek shipping and the Port of Piraeus and its promising future.

The meeting ended on an optimistic note, with Dr. Papaschinopoulou congratulating Ambassador Weingerl-Požar on the election of the Republic of Slovenia as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
