MARDIPLO CELEBRATES MARITIME CLAIMS SETTLEMENT IN BANGLADESH WITH NEW AMBASSADOR
14 / 09 / 2024
We are delighted to share that on Thursday, 5 September, Dr. Mary Papaschinopoulou had the distinct privilege of meeting with H.E. Mrs. Nahida Rahman Shumona, the newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the Hellenic Republic, at the Embassy in Athens.
During the meeting, Dr. Papaschinopoulou warmly welcomed Ambassador Nahida and expressed appreciation for the Embassy’s support in the final settlement of four (4) maritime claims involving both the public and private sectors in Bangladesh.
The current political situation in Bangladesh, shaped by significant challenges and opportunities following the student protests in the summer, the resignation of PM Sheikh Hasina, and the interim government preparing the ground for renewed national elections at a yet undetermined date, highlights the necessity of maritime corporate diplomacy in maritime dispute resolution.
The discussion further covered a number of key topics, including the global leadership of the Greek shipping industry and the business opportunities in the development of the maritime sector in Bangladesh.
In particular, the meeting addressed shipbreaking, training of seafarers, port infrastructure and logistics.
Last but certainly not least on the meeting’s agenda: MARDIPLO ACADEMY’s “Blue Diplomacy Training Program” especially for diplomats and civil servants. The Ambassador and Dr. Papaschinopoulou jointly explored avenues for enhanced cooperation with the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh (FSE) following MARDIPLO’s inaugural training course at the FSE in February of 2024.
We extend our best wishes to Ambassador Nahida for an impactful tenure, and we look forward to continuing our most successful collaboration with the Embassy.
