On March 28, Dr. Mary Papaschinopoulou was honored to attend a courtesy meeting with H.E. Mr. Mouayed Saleh, Ambassador of Iraq to Greece, at the esteemed premises of the Embassy in Athens.
Iraq is a nation whose rich heritage extends beyond its status as an oil mogul to include centuries of maritime trade and exploration. From the ancient ports of Mesopotamia to the modern shipping lanes of the Persian Gulf, Iraq has had a lasting influence on global trade and commerce. In particular, the port of Umm Qasr in the Basra region is a vital hub for Iraq’s economic backbone, facilitating the flow of goods and commodities and ensuring prosperity.
Our dialogue underscored the deep-rooted historical, diplomatic and commercial ties between Iraq and Greece, particularly in the maritime sector. We also discussed MARDIPLO’s innovative approach to maritime corporate diplomacy, which uses soft power to resolve disputes, address today’s complex challenges, and develop business opportunities in the maritime sector.
