MARDIPLO MEETING WITH AMBASSADOR OF THE ARAB REPUBLIC OF EGYPT IN ATHENS

04 / 03 / 2024

On the first of March 2023, Dr Mary Papaschinopoulou, MARDIPLO’s co-founder had the honour of meeting H.E Mr Omar Amer Youssef, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Athens.

The meeting was held at the premises of the emblematic building that houses the Egyptian Embassy in Athens, which was build in 1885 by the renowned architect Ernst Ziller and was later sold to Egypt in 1930. For the first years it was used as a temporary residence for Egypt’s last King Farouk I, who frequently visited Athens. After his dethronement it became property of the Embassy, retaining its historical charm to this day.

During this engaging encounter, Dr. Papaschinopoulou and H.E. the Ambassador delved into fruitful discussions on maritime affairs, a significant pillar of the economies of both Egypt and Greece, countries with global prominence in the shipping sector.

A special emphasis was given to the pivotal role of Blue Diplomacy, MARDIPLO’s area of expertise, while both highlighted the importance of this new innovative tool in navigating the complex geopolitical challenges that profoundly influence the shipping landscape, in our respective countries.
