Philippines’ assumption of the ASEAN Chairship 75 Years of Philippine–Hellenic Maritime and Diplomatic Ties

On 16 December 2025, at the Grand Hyatt Athens, MARDIPLO had the honour of attending a distinguished diplomatic reception marking two important milestones: the Philippines’ assumption of the ASEAN Chairship and the celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Philippines and the Hellenic Republic.
In his keynote address, Ambassador Giovanni E. Palec, highlighted the country’s commitment to ASEAN centrality, regional stability, economic cooperation, and inclusive, people-centred development. He also reflected on the 75 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Greece, emphasizing shared values, mutual trust, and the enduring partnership between the two maritime nations.

Ambassador Palec placed particular emphasis on maritime cooperation and the vital contribution of Filipino seafarers to the global and Greek shipping industries, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration in areas such as seafarer welfare, skills enhancement, and responsible employment practices.

The event reinforced the role of maritime diplomacy in fostering practical cooperation and sustainable partnerships across the ASEAN–EU and Philippine–Hellenic maritime landscape.
